Ishpeming– Samuel H. Genord, age 81, of 412 Excelsior St. Ishpeming, passed away on Monday, March 17th, 2008 at Marquette General Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on April 26, 1926, the son of the late Samuel and Leah (Hart) Genord. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School earning a degree in 2000 honoring WWII veterans who served their country during their school years. He served in the U.S. Army and is an honorary WW II Veteran. Sam married Janet Klippel on June 26, 1961. Sam worked for the Ishpeming Public Schools, serving at Birchview for many years. He was a life member of the VFW post 4573, and the Ishpeming Beagle Club.
Sam served as the manager for the Woody's Bar softball team for many years and he was the U.P. Softball Commissioner for the Sate of Michigan. Sam also served for the Ishpeming Parks and Recreation Board for many years. He enjoyed hunting, breeding & running beagles, and attending his grandsons' sporting events. He was a life long area resident and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Janet (Klippel) Genord, 3 daughters: Lauri (Roger) Kulju of Ishpeming, MI, Amanda (Jerry) Pope of Ishpeming, MI, and Joyce Genord of Westminster, CO. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren: Samuel Clay Genord, Marc Edward Sorrell, Anthony (Megan) Pope, Steven Pope, Deepankar (Lindsey) Jain, Nicole & Michael Kulju, 2 sisters: Shirley (Paul) Turino of Ishpeming, MI and Marguerite Luokkala of Negaunee, MI, a brother-in-law – August Baggoire of Ishpeming and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by 2 sisters: Pauline Baggiore and Marjorie Ogea.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home at 7:30PM on Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 with Rev. Fr. James Challancin officiating.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 4:00PM until the time of services at 7:30PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law August "Bags" Baggiore and Paul Turino, and his friends Matt Bjorne, Jim Kutchie, Eugene Dellangelo, Steve Laux, and Ralph Watters.
Interment will be on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
