Ishpeming- Salvatore R. Nardi, age 84 life long Ishpeming resident passed away Thursday September 8, 2016 at the UP Health System Marquette.
Salvatore was born October 2, 1931 in Ishpeming to Vito A. & Rose (Leone) Nardi. He graduated from Ishpeming High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed on the destroyer USS Ingersoll. He enjoyed attending the reunions with his shipmates of the USS Ingersoll. Sal worked for 43 plus years for Cleveland Cliffs working as an electrician at all of the Cliffs properties.
Sal was a devoted Catholic, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge and the Ishpeming V.F.W. Sal enjoyed fishing and hunting and his daily walks. He also spent 20 plus years wintering in North Fort Meyers, Florida.
Sal is survived by a son Vincent (Stephanie) Nardi of DePere, WI, 2 granddaughters: Elizabeth & Jami Nardi, a sister Rose (Mike) Victor of Homosassa, FL, 2 brothers: John Nardi of Negaunee and Phil (Audrey) Nardi of Marquette, a sister in law Marilyn Nardi of Ishpeming along with nieces and nephews. Sal was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, brothers: Frank & Tony Nardi and sisters: Frances Woods, Angela Dye, and Janet Hayek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday September 16, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. Dan Moll officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Sal's family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A luncheon will follow the service at St. Joseph Church Hall.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veteran of America Chapter 380.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in memory of Salvatore Nardi.
