Republic- Sally Stilwell Nannestad,

Born Sally Crawford Stilwell, to Marquerite Crawford Stilwell and James Gerald Stilwell on Aug. 5, 1932, in Iron Mountain, Mi.

After graduating High School in Iron Mountain, Mi., Sally attended Lake Forest College earning a teaching degree. Sally taught grade school in Deerfield, Il. and then in Marquette, Mi.

Later, Sally was one of the principle owners of Crandall Jewelry Store in Marquette. During which, Sally learned to fly airplanes. With a love of flying and teaching, Sally became a FAA Certified Flight Instructor. Sally's teaching experience extended to visitors by teaching Hawaiian culture and customs. The gifts made in Hawaii were symbols of the native Hawaiian culture.

Sally has eight students who became airline Captains. You will never hear about them because none have had an accident or violation. The mark of a superior flight instructor.

Retiring in 1997, Sally spent summers in Republic at camp. When Fred retired, they sold their Hawaii home and purchased a home in Tucson, Az., for the winters always returning to Republic camp for summers.

Winters in Tucson became another opportunity for Sally to learn. She joined the Monday hiking club, a birding group, and spent solo time in Sabino Canyon learning about the desert and wild life. Soon, Sally volunteered to be a guide and teacher for the National Forest Service, Sabino Canyon. In addition to 3 days a week of exercise, Sally made new friends both personal and social.
