Ishpeming- S. Michael Harvala, age 65, of 375 River St. Ishpeming, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, April 5th, 2009 at his home.

Steven was born in Ishpeming on September 30, 1943, the son of the late Hugo J. and Elsie (Jarvi) Harvala. He was a graduate of Ishpeming High School and a member of the National Guard. Mike enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors. He loved fishing and spending time at his camp in Clarksburg, better known as "Gob's Little Acre".

Mike was an active member of trout unlimited and had a new found glory for four-wheeling. Mike also enjoyed his "coffee clutching" with the guys at Sherry's every morning and his Sunday morning meetings with the retired pipefitters. He was a life long area resident and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.

Mike is survived by a sister: Susan E. Harvala of Ishpeming, and special little friends: Ashley, Ethan, Miaja and Ellie, along with several cousins and aunts. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Helen (Hytinen) Harvala in 2007.

Funeral Services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 9th, with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of services at the church. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
