Obituary

Hancock, MI – Ruth D. (Kulju) Tobin's soul rose up to be with her Lord on Wednesday, the 1st of July. Her spirit now rejoices with Him. Our hearts are broken.

Ruth was 83 years old and a resident of Ishpeming. She was a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a nurse, an Army veteran, a caregiver, and a gentle lady. She was a tireless volunteer, loved and welcomed by many. She was generous with her time and money, often working behind the scenes and donating money anonymously. She will leave a hole in our hearts and our community.

Ruth's funeral will be on Monday, the sixth of July at Bethel Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from noon to 2, followed by a service at 2 with a luncheon afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please remember Ruth through Lake Superior Hospice in Marquette, which she was a charter member of, worked with, and loved for 25+ years, or Aspirus Keweenaw Home Health and Hospice in Calumet, who were exceedingly kind to her in her final days.

Surviving are her brother, John "Rey" Kulju; son, James Tobin of Ishpeming; daughter, Ruth (Glen) Archer of Hancock; grandchildren William, Nathan, Ruth, and Geneva Archer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth was preceded in death by her mother Oma; father John; sisters Ethel, Alice, Irene, and Anna; and brothers Hugo and Bill.

Our family would appreciate any stories that you might recall about Ruth. If you have a memory or two that you would like to share with us, you can e-mail it to raarcher@yahoo.com, or mail it to us at Ruth Archer, 49351 No. 7 Flats Rd. Hancock, MI 49930.

The Magnificat
My soul proclaims the greatness, O god,
And my spirit rejoices in you
You have looked with love on your servant here,
And blessed me all my life through
Great and mighty are you, O Holy One.
Strong is your kindness evermore.
How you favor the weak and lowly one
Humbling the proud of heart.

You have cast the mighty down from their thrones,
And uplifted the humble of heart,
You have filled the hungry with wondrous things
And left the wealthy no part.
Great and mighty are you, o faithful One,
Strong is your justice, strong your love
As you promised to Sarah and Abraham,
Kindness forevermore.

My soul proclaims your greatness, O God,
And my spirit rejoices in you.
You have looked with love on your servant here,
And blessed me all my life through.
