Ishpeming – Ruth E. "Penny" Behrens – Grund, age 94, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away early Monday morning, June 12, 2017 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of her family, staff members at MCMCF and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Ruth was born May 20, 1923 in Negaunee the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lyllis (Tresedder) Penberthy. She was raised in Negaunee and attended the Jackson School and was a graduate of the Negaunee High School. Penny had worked as a seamstress at the HW Gossard Co. and for many years in Housekeeping at the Breitung Hotel in Negaunee and then the Holiday Inn in Marquette.

Penny spent the past 31 years in Ishpeming 25 of which were at the Pioneer Bluff Apartments and the past 6 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility. Penny loved to dance and will be remembered by family members as a beautiful dancer. She enjoyed her flower gardens, coffee with friends when she lived at the "High Rise" and BINGO games at MCMCF. Penny's family will have many various objects with which to remember Penny by, as she put her name and address on everything she had owned.

Survivors include a daughter Sandra (Patrick) Ball of Ishpeming, sister Gloria (John) VanGraber of Burlington, VT, 3 grandchildren – Tracy (Bruce) Ledlow of Smiths, AL, Todd (Kristen Hill) Ball and Troy (Lynn) Ball both of Ishpeming, 4 great grandchildren – Brent, Chelsea, Devin and Alyssa and a great great granddaughter Trinidy, along with several nieces, nephews and the resident feline "Tootles" at MCMCF. Penny was preceded in death by her husband Paul "Lenny" Grund, brother Francis "Nibs" Penberthy and grandson Ryan Ball.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday June 16, 2017 at the Negaunee Cemetery. A light luncheon will follow at the Sunnyside Estates Community Building in Ishpeming Twp.
