Ishpeming – Ruth E. (Herman) Dowrick, age 87, 403 N. Main St. Apt. #1, Ishpeming, passed away on Saturday March 15, 2008 at the Marquette General Hospital, where she had been a patient since this past Wednesday.
Ruth was born February 5, 1921 in Trenary, the daughter of the late John and Emma (Pera) Savola. She grew up in Trenary, and moved to Negaunee in her late teenage years. She had worked at the H.W. Gossard Co. for several years in the late 1940's into the 1950's. In 1968 she moved to Kelso, WA, where she resided until her return to this area in 1968. While in Kelso, WA, she worked for the Sport-caster Co. making winter apparel.
Ruth was a member of the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church and the Negaunee Eagles Aerie #1944. Ruth loved to be around her grandchildren following there various activities. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and going to Wal-Mart. During her time in the State of Washington she enjoyed traveling and camping with her second husband, most notably being at the foothills of Mt. St. Helens when it erupted.
Survivors include four children - Robert (Joyce) Herman of Palmer, Roger (Julie) Herman of Ishpeming, Lois (Raymond) Fredin of Ishpeming and Jean (Duane) Meyer of Bradley, IL; 3 step-children – Todd (Sandy) Dowrick, Cory (Tracy) Dowrick and Pam (Bill) Rautio; 3 sisters – Tyne Rukkila of Marquette, Helen Peterson of Negaunee, and Irene Miller of Negaunee; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – Roger and Susan Dowrick, Chuck and Nancy Frassetto, and Robert and Peg Dowrick; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband William Herman in 1962, her second husband Don Dowrick in 1996, four sisters – Aili Hahka, Sylvia Hahka, Jennie Haapala and Annie Hautio, and six brothers – Waino, John, Elmer, Reino and Leslie along with William Savola who died in his infancy.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 2:00 until 3:00pm on Wednesday March 19, 2008 at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church, where a Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm with Rev. Dale Niskanen to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
