Tilden Twp, MI- Russell Fabian Salo, Sr., age 87, of Tilden Township passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2021, at UP Health System Bell.

Russell was born in Watton, Michigan on February 12, 1934, to Nels and Tynne (Lepola) Salo. He graduated from L'Anse High School.

Russell worked at the White Pine Mine before moving to the Ishpeming area where he worked at Cleveland Cliffs. He retired as a drill operator from the Empire Mine in 1996.

Russell enjoyed working on tractors, making firewood, always known as a hard worker. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting.

Russell is survived by a son Russell Salo Jr., a daughter Sherry (Paul) Bunker both of Ishpeming, 2 grandchildren: Christina Bunker, and Nathaniel Bunker, a brother Edsel (Shirley) Salo of Watton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his Parents, wife Mary Salo, 2 brothers; Wesley and Raymond Salo, and sisters; Elsie Longrie, Elvie Antilla, Edna Helenius, Arlene Ryersen, Clarabeth Dixon, and D. Ellen Dolkey.

Services for Russell will be private for the family.

Interment will take place at the Covington Cemetery.
