Ishpeming- Rudolph Victor "Rudy" Kero, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had been a resident since July 2011.
Rudy was born August 28, 1924 in Michigamme to Matt & Jennie (Miller) Kero. He graduated from the last class of Palmer High School in 1942. Following high school Rudy enlisted in the U.S. Army. He trained at Camp Hale, Colorado for the Ski Troop. Rudy served with the 44th Antiaircraft Artillery Brigade during World War II. Rudy attended the University of Michigan and Northern Michigan University where he received his teaching degree.
Rudy was a high school teacher for the Champion School District mainly teaching shop and also math. He married Maxine (Morrsette) in1981. Rudy enjoyed woodworking and cross country skiing. He was a member of the Palmer High School Class E state championship basketball team in 1942 and a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church of Negaunee.
Rudy is survived by 2 brothers: Don Kero of Neenah, WI, Ted (Shirley) Kero of Negaunee, 3 nieces, 3, nephews and a host of brothers and sisters in faith. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine and a sister Marjorie Hansen.
Funeral services for Rudy will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday July 28, 2015 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee with Chas Prusi officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Rudy's family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am
Pallbearers will be David, Peter, & Paul Kero, Brian & Robert Hintsala and Tom Johnson.
