Champion- Royal E. Pascoe, age 85 of 3168 Co. Rd. AAJ (Beacon Hill) Champion, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital where he been a patient for the past month.
Royal was born December 8, 1924 in Imperial Heights to William T. & Chloe (Plankey) Pascoe. Royal graduated from Champion High School class of 1942. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1943 – 1946 during World War II. He also worked as a miner at the Tracey, Blueberry and the Republic Mines retiring from Cleveland Cliffs.
Royal was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion, a charter member of the Champion Lions Club where he was currently serving as treasurer and was also a member of the American Legion Lillian Larson Post 114 of Greenwood. Royal enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing. He will be missed by his partners in these activities that he loved.
Royal is survived by his wife Helen "Marcy" Pascoe whom he married March 21, 1946, a sister Rose (Ernest 'Bud') Frisk of Champion, and 2 sisters in law: Gloria Saari (Bruce) of Ishpeming and Betty Pascoe (James) of Champion. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Robert, Jim, and Earl.
He was a wonderful, loving "Uncle" to his many nieces and nephews. He was always there for them and was viewed more often as a back up 'Dad' or "Grampa'.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion with Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives at the church on Sunday from 3 pm until the time of service at 5 pm. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 will conduct military honors at the conclusion of the memorial mass.
In lieu of flowers memorial can be directed to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in memory of Royal Pascoe.
