Obituary

Ishpeming – Roy L. Lemin, age 76, of 348 S. First St., Ishpeming passed away on Sunday August 2, 2009 at his home in Ishpeming while under the loving care of his family and the Lake Superior Hospice.


Roy was born March 25, 1933 in Negaunee the son of the late Leslie and Violet (May) Lemin. Roy was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1951. He worked for 43 years for the Marquette Co. Road Commission in Ishpeming, retiring in 1994 as Maintenance Supervisor. Roy had also served in the Michigan National Guard for 9 years.


Roy was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. He was also a member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge and a former member of the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club. Roy loved woodworking projects, especially making yard decorations, Christmas ornaments and rocking chairs. He enjoyed time spent at camp, and deer season.


Survivors include his wife of 56 years Barbara (LaCombe) Lemin of Ishpeming, a daughter – Patricia (Tom) Varda of Negaunee, 2 grandchildren – David (Kelly) Varda of Negaunee, and Michael (Michelle) Varda of Gilbert, MN, 4 great grandchildren – Nicholas, Dawson, Nathan and Hannah Varda. He was preceded in death by a son Leslie Lemin, his parents Leslie Lemin, Violet Verdone and his step-father since Roy was a child, William Verdone.


A private graveside service will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery with the Rev. Warren Geier to officiate.


The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the Dialysis Unit at MGH, the nurses, along with Dr. Napier and Dr. Himes for their compassionate care of Roy in the past five years.
