Champion – Roy "Tim" Heilala, age 60 of 1 Mine Rd. in Champion Twp. passed away on Wednesday May 16, 2007 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming where he had been a patient for the past day.
Roy was born November 19, 1946 in Ishpeming the son of the late Matt and Ida (Konola) Heilala. He was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1965. "Tim" served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970 having been stationed in Germany. He had worked as an electrician for 30 years for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. first at the Mather "B" and then the Tilden Mine, retiring in 2001. "Tim" was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed music, photography, and his dog "snoopy".
Survivors include a sister Aileen Kransel of Elkhorn, WI; 2 brothers – Paul (Sue) Heilala of Ishpeming and Jim (Colleen) Heilala of Marquette; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday May 18, 2007 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Champion Cemetery.
