Ishpeming Twp- Roy L. Alanen, age 83 of 1785 Glendora Ln, Ishpeming Twp, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at his home under the care of his family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Roy was born October 8, 1926 in Bruce Crossing to Emil & Roosa (Tienhaara) Alanen. Roy graduated from Ewen High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Roy worked at the Brownstone Shop for Cleveland Cliffs retiring in 1989 and later worked as a self-employed boiler and heating contractor.

Roy was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church since 1974, an Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis Club member and a visitor of the UP Heart Club since 1993. Roy enjoyed outdoor activities of snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, fishing on Lake Superior and spending time at the "Finlander" hunting camp. Roy was also willing to help others fix things and was a small engine collector.

Roy is survived by his wife Elna (Ritari) Alanen, whom he married June 3, 1950, a daughter Arlove Alanen of Ishpeming, a brother Reino Alanen of Bruce Crossing, sisters in law Ellen Alanen of Marquette and Evelyn Alanen of Marquette along with numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sisters, an infant brother Edwin, and brothers Eino and Elmer.

Funeral services and visitation will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming on Monday, April 19, 2010 with visitation from 10:00am-12:00 noon and funeral services at 12:00 noon officiated by Rev. Lauri O. Maki.

Pallbearers will be Len Laurila, Vic DePaoli, Wesley Wentala, Ralph Watters, Brian Niemi and John Adams, - and Honorary Pallbearers the rest of the members of the Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis Club.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 will conduct Military Honors at the conclusion of the funeral service at Bethel Lutheran Church
