Obituary

Ishpeming, MI – Rose M. Anderson, age 89 and longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at U.P. Health System Marquette with family by her side.

Rose was born in Ishpeming on August 15, 1933, daughter of the late Elna (Ritari) and Salvatore "Sam" Marra. She grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School's Class of 1951. Rose married the love of her life, Raymond R. Anderson on May 12, 1956, and together they raised their five children– Carol, Marcia, Lynn, Pamela, and John. In addition to motherhood, Rose worked for Ishpeming's Michigan Bell and Marquette's Montgomery Ward before becoming an accounts payable clerk for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring with over 20 years of service in 1993.

A devout Catholic and member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Rose was active with the women's guild and sang in the church choir. Rose was also a member of the Paisano Club and she looked forward to traveling to Milwaukee's Italian Festival for many years. Her desire to travel took her to Europe in the 1990s and several destinations in the US. She appreciated the occasional "game of chance" and enjoyed all sorts of competition, from baseball to Jeopardy! She took several classes with the Community Schools Program and kept busy with crafts, gardening, and homemaking. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took great pride in following their athletic and artistic extracurriculars throughout the years. Family and friends will remember Rose as a woman of faith, a wonderful cook and someone who brought joy to every room she entered.

Rose is survived by four daughters, Carol (Arlen) Clarke of Greenville, SC; Marcia (Duane) Dolkey of Wetmore, MI; Lynn (Jim) Bellmore of Ishpeming, MI; Pamela (Kevin) Calhoun of Au Train, MI; son, John R. Anderson of Ishpeming, MI; a sister, Jean (John) Carter of Marquette, MI; 7 grandchildren - Jon Dolkey, Jillian (Andy) Van Dyke, Michael (Christina) Dolkey, Katelyn Argall, Benjamin Argall, Audrey Goldsmith and Samuel Goldsmith; great grandchildren - Anna Van Dyke, Patrick Hitchcock, Keagen Taylor, and another on the way; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond R. Anderson in 1988; sister, Carol (Tony) Pawloski; grandson, Jason Dolkey; step granddaughter, Jadee Bellmore-Taylor; and son-in-law Mike Argall.

A Parish Rosary will be recited at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming at 10:00am on Monday January 9, 2023. The family will then greet relatives and friends at St. John's from 10:15am – until 12:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Ryan Ford and Fr.
