Ishpeming- Roland R. Maki, age 76 of 303 Cedar St. Ishpeming, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had been a resident for 1 week.
Roland was born June 21, 1939 in Ishpeming to Ralph & Marion (Rice) Maki. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1957. He served in the United States Navy from 1957 until 1961. Roland worked 30 plus years for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company working as an electrician at the Mather B & Tilden Mines, retiring in 1997.
Roland was a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, playing cards & pool and enjoyed tinkering with cars. He will be missed by his canine companion "Winnie."
Roland is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Andrews) Maki,, whom he married on June 7, 1960, 2 children: Linda (Scott) Quayle of Ishpeming and Randy (Lori) Maki of DeMotte, IN, 4 grandchildren: Nicholle (Ben) Pascoe, Robert (Kristi) U'Ren, Kathryn Maki and Paige Maki. Roland was preceded in death by his parents Ralph & Marion Maki.
Funeral services for Roland will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev. JJ Mannschreck officiating. Inurment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery at a later date.
Roland's family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 2:00pm until the time of service at 4:00pm.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietman Veterans of America Chapter 380.
A luncheon will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church following the service.
