Republic MI- Roger D. Starkey, age 66, lifelong Republic resident passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021. Roger was born in Marquette, Michigan on August 5, 1954, the only son of George and Lillian Starkey. He retired from CCI due to a hearing loss that occurred at work, which negatively impacted his life until the end.
During his retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at camp.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife Kelly Starkey, his parents and sisters Barbara and Bonnie. He is survived by two sisters Ellen and Debbie, and multiple nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his only son, Travis Starkey. Every Father wishes for his son to be more successful than himself. Travis graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Roger was proud of Travis's accomplishments even though he never spoke of it often. Travis is an amazing son who cared for his Father for the last five months, which was very challenging and exhausting.
Roger was your typical big brother and found ways to torment his little sisters. In spite of that all you will always have a special place in our hearts, and we would never wish for another brother other than you.
God hath not promised skies always blue or flower-strewn pathways for all our lives through. God had not promised sun without rain, joy without sorrow, peace without pain. But God hath promised strength for the day. Rest for the labor, and light for the way. Grace for the trials. Help from above, unfailing sympathy and undying love.
The family is grateful to the care and compassion of U.P. Home Health and Hospice, and Amanda Hafer RN.
A celebration of his life will take place in July in Republic.
