Ishpeming- Roger Nykanen, age 57 Ishpeming resident passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Roger was born March 10, 1953 in Marquette to Irene (Hintsala) Nykanen and the late Edwin Nykanen. He graduated from Marquette Senior High School, class of 1971. Roger was currently employed by Cliffs Natural Resources, working as a production truck driver where he been working for the past 35 years. Roger was a member of the Superiorland Harley's Owners Group.

Roger is survived by his daughter Ginger (Michael) Rafferty of Spotsylvania, VA, 3 grandchildren: Sommer, Winter, and Ewan, his mother Irene Nykanen of Negaunee, 2 sisters: Bonnie (Peter) Koski of Humboldt and Merry (Kerry) Lucarelli of Coon Rapids, MN, 2 brothers: Gordon (Linda) Nykanen of Gwinn and Bob (Holly) Nykanen of Covington, Georgia, special friends Lois and Al Palkki of Black River, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his father Edwin and a brother Dave.

Memorial services will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 492 Negaunee with Dale Kemp officiating.

The family will greet friends and relatives at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 9:00am until the time of service at 11:00am.
