Ishpeming- Roger J. McCoy, age 70, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Monday August 8, 2022 at his home as a result of a house fire.
Roger was born in Marquette on February 22, 1952, son of the late James and Joanne (Freeman) McCoy. Roger grew up in the Sterling Heights area before returning back to Ishpeming in 1972. He briefly attended college before being drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Roger worked at Robin's Flooring Mill in Ishpeming for many years.
Roger enjoyed going out to eat at local restaurants especially Jerzi's every day, and the Coach Light for breakfast on the weekends both of which he could be found coffee clutching with his friends. In his younger years he enjoyed running track where he competed in both High School and at the Collegiate levels. Roger enjoyed weight lifting, colleting vinyl albums, comic books, researching military equipment and artillery, following Ishpeming Hematites Sports, old sci-fi movies, scary movies, and hosted a yearly oldies party where he and his friends would enjoy listening to whatever albums Roger selected for the year. Roger was also a lover of cats.
Roger is survived by 4 siblings- Steven "Amos" (Julie) McCoy, Vicki Bennon, Cathy (Paul) Sirchia, Robert (Renee Wylie) McCoy, 9 nieces and nephews- Steven (Missy) McCoy, Lance McCoy, Sean (Trish) Bennon, Jolene (Tim) Beaumont, Charity (Dan) Mason, Michelle (Wayne) Morrow, Jennifer (Christopher) Goodall, Kris (Ryan) Tunteri, Paul (Dr. Sheila Wang) Oien, and 1 uncle- George (Alice) Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Joanne McCoy.
Family and friends may gather at the Ishpeming Cemetery on Monday August 22, 2022 at 1:00pm where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army UP Honor Team.
