Ishpeming - Roger John Laitinen, age 59, of 406 Greenwood St. passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2021 at his home in Ishpeming.

Roger was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on February 10, 1962, a son of the late Jeanette (Oien) and Sulo Laitinen.

He attended Ishpeming High School graduating with the class of 1980 and remained a proud Hematite all his life.

He worked as a Highway Maintenance Specialist for Marquette County Road Commission for 22 years.

Roger was a big University of Michigan fan and enjoyed watching the games with his sons. If no sports were on TV, an old Western or war movie would be playing.  He loved the summers, spending time on his deck or taking his boat out fishing.  It was important to Roger that all who visited had enough to eat; he showed his love by cooking and taking care of everyone.

Roger is survived by: Two sons, Gage (Lorissa Juntti) Laitinen of Ishpeming and Ethan (Lexi Peterson) of Ishpeming; sister, Maryann Schwanke of National Mine; brother, Jim Laitinen of Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Dennis Laforest of Greenwood Loc; nephew, Brian Laitinen; niece, Jenny (Casey) Diedrick; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Deni (Anderson) and sister, Carrie Laforest.

As he requested no public services will be held. The Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
