Ely Twp, MI- Roger Lee Herman, Sr., age 76, Ely Township resident passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at his home while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Roger was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on December 21, 1945, a son of the late William C. and Ruth E. (Savola) Herman. He grew up in Negaunee and was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1964.

Roger worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at various properties and retired as a machinist from the Empire Mine in 1998.

He was a member of the Negaunee Elks and Negaunee Eagles.

Roger was a talented musician and loved old time Country & Western music.  He enjoyed singing and playing guitar in various popular local bands throughout the years.  He was happy spending time in his home recording studio arranging and perfecting his songs.Rog and Julie loved to go camping in their travel trailer all over the U.P. - they took the grandkids along on many of their trips.  They also enjoyed bus trips and vacations in other states, going to the casino, and spending Sundays watching the Packers. Rog will be missed by his canine companion "Gracie".

Roger is survived by his wife Julie (Laituri) Herman, a son, Roger (Leslie) Herman, a step daughter, Sheila (Henry) Espinoza, a step son, Steven (Sherri) Laitinen, grandchildren; Ann (AJ Tiernan) Herman, Jenna (Kody Kindstrand) Espinoza, Jacob Espinoza, Kayleigh (Bob) Eslinger, Chelsey (Eric Benkarski) Laitinen, great grandchildren; Riley Tiernan, Liam Kangas, a sister Lois Fredin, sister in law Joyce Herman, brothers in law; Duane Meyer and Rodney Laituri, a niece and nephews including special nephew Mark Herman.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, William Herman and his mother Ruth Dowrick, a brother Robert Herman, a sister Jean Meyer, his first wife; Phyllis (Rajala) Herman and a great grandson Anthony Tiernan Jr., brother in law, Raymond "Skeeter" Fredin.

Funeral services for Roger will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home with Pastor Bre Kinnunen to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of service.

Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
