Ishpeming- Rocco M. Manzoline, age 90 of 813 Wabash St. Ishpeming passed away Monday, April 07, 2014 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he has been a resident since November 2012.
Rocco was born August 3, 1923 in Ishpeming to Nunzio & Josephine (Zeppo) Manzoline. Rocco enlisted in the US Navy in December 1941. He was stationed on many vessels during his enlistment one of which was the U.S.S. Rich a vessel which was destroyed during World War II and he was one of seventeen sailors to survive. Rocco was honorably discharged in 1961 as a BMCA. Following his return to Ishpeming Rocco purchased the Wagon Wheel Bar on Hwy 41 which he and his family owned and operated until 1984. Rocco was a member of the Ishpeming V.F.W. Post. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior.
Rocco is survived by two children: Dennis (Wendy) Manzoline of Ishpeming and Kathy Manzoline of Santa Maria, CA, a brother Raymond Manzoline of Hibbing, MN, 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Rocco was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, 2 sons: Steven and James Manzoline 3 sisters: Kristine Larson, Rose Stensas and Lydia Mitchell and 1 brother John Manzoline.
A private family service will be held. Inurnment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
