Obituary

Ishpeming - Dr. Robert W. "Bob" Turino, age 93, longtime Ishpeming Township resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 25, 2016. He had been a resident at Teal Lake Senior Living Facility in Negaunee for the past four months.

Bob was born in Ishpeming on September 11, 1922, son of the late Walter and Caroline (Dower) Turino. He was raised in North Lake and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1941. He married Helen Miriam Koskinen in 1946 and they were married for 59 years. Helen was called home to her Lord and Savior, January, 2006.

Bob worked at the Lloyd and Mather "A" Mines for six years and joined the United States Navy spending his service years in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Following graduation in 1953 he returned to Ishpeming to practice as a Chiropractor, for many years as Turino Chiropractic, retiring in 1988. Bob was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he served in numerous capacities. He served on the Michigan State Chiropractic Board in Lansing for several years and served several terms on the Ishpeming Township Board as a trustee in the late 1960's. He was a life member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge and the Teal Lake Masonic Lodge. Bob was a past president of the Pioneer Kiwanis of Ishpeming and also a past president of the Ishpeming Town Club. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and the Sports Coalition.

Bob was an avid, all-seasons outdoorsman, enjoying his camp and sauna, all types of hunting, fishing and trapping. Anything that could be done outdoors, he enjoyed. He had been a member of the Beagle Club and the U.P. Trappers Association.

Survivors include two daughters: Carey (Jon) Gary of Plymouth, MI, Kathryn (Stephan) Ketcham of Ishpeming; three sons, Dr. Bruce (Mary) Turino of Ishpeming, Dr. Timothy (Karen) Turino of Madison, WI and Joel (Julie) Turino of Viroqua, WI; a brother, Paul Turino of Ishpeming; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren with another to be born in February; and Sue Perry, his dear friend and companion. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, an infant grandson Robert Clark Turino, grandson Jeffrey Stephan Ketcham, son-in-law Jon Gary, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00noon on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the U.P. Honors Team at the conclusion of the services. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 12:00noon on Friday at the Bethel Lutheran Church. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

Memorial donations may be directed to the U.P. Home Health and Hospice or the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bob's memory. Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Teal Lake Senior Living for their kindness, friendship and the wonderful care given there.
