Ishpeming- Robert B. “Butch” St. Amour, age 81 of Ishpeming, passed away on October 1, 2026 at his home while in the loving care of his wife, and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
Butch was born on March 28, 1945 in Ishpeming, son of the late Alfred and Jean (Sandstrom) St. Amour. Butch was a 1963 graduate of Ishpeming High School and went on to graduate from Ferris State University receiving an Associate degree in Industrial Design in 1965. He was employed as a tool and die designer in lower Michigan until enlisting in the US Army in 1968. Upon completion of basic training, he attended the US Army Intelligence School Fort Holabird, Maryland. Upon graduation in August 1969 he was assigned to the 113th Military Intelligence Group as a Special Agent serving Wausau Resident office. During the next two years, the Special Agent in charge and Robert enjoyed performing background investigations, security clearances and VIP support and assistance for the Secretary of Defense, The Honorable Melvin Laird during his visits home to Marshfield, Wisconsin. Upon completion of his service, Butch returned back to the Ishpeming area, enrolling in Northern Michigan University where he graduated with honors earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technology in 1974. After being employed as a field engineer for several years with Bechtel Corporation, Bob started his own construction company, Quality Building Systems in Ishpeming where he worked until his retirement in 2012.
During the past years, Butch enjoyed many hobbies including RC Medeling, Cars, stain glass, and computer building, however, his true love was woodworking. Ever since his first woodshop class in the 7th grade he realized that he had a special love for turing a raw piece of wood into a work of art.
Butch is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane (Aalto) St. Amour, 3 children, Amy (Steve) Perry, Mitchell (Breanne Mcnally) St. Amour, Michelle (William) Hathaway, 6 grandchildren, Kira and Chloe Perry, Toby, Autumn, Molly, and Esme St. Amour, brother, Terry (Katheryn) St. Amour, brother, David (Connie) St. Amour, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is further survived by his former wives, Bonnie Corkin and Cheryl Fluery.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Butch’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday October 9, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM with food being served throughout. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Tim Johnston officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the UP Honor Team.
