Republic Twp, MI - Robert (Bob) Neal Reinhardt, age 93, of Republic, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at his home while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Bob was born on February 18, 1930, in Detroit, MI, the youngest son of the late Charles and Yvonne DuPerron Reinhardt. Bob graduated in 1948 from Denby High School, Detroit, MI and began working life at Chrysler. It was here that he met his wife, Louise Ricketts, and they were married on Sep 5th, 1950.
Bob enlisted in the US Army Reserve on Feb 22, 1951, and had a long and distinguished career, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major with 39 years of service with the 70th Division (Training). He received many awards and commendations for his service, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/2 Hourglasses and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters. After his military retirement, he continued to work for the 70th Division in a civilian capacity in their Resource Management Office as a Management Assistant until his full retirement in 1996.
Bob was very physically active, running or biking to work each day, completing the Detroit Marathon 3 times and maintaining the ability to max the Army Physical Fitness Test into his 60's. He continued doing Crossfit into his early 80's.
After his full retirement, Bob and Louise moved from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula to be closer to family, building a house in the woods, where they enjoyed the peace and solitude of the wilderness. He was an avid U of M Wolverines football fan, and enjoyed cooking, card games and travel.
Bob is survived by his wife F. Louise (Ricketts) Reinhardt, 3 grandchildren; Seth (Elizabeth) Wixtrom, of Republic, Rachel (Samuel) Schaphorst of Pine River, MN, and Matthew (Eve) Wixtrom of Greenville, MI, 5 great grandchildren; Austin, Caleb, Ethan, Josiah, Alaric, and son in law Michael Wixtrom of Republic. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter; Belinda "Lyn" (Reinhardt) Wixtrom, his brother Charles Reinhardt and sister Fay Alongi.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at a future date, and he will be laid to rest in the Republic Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to Bob's family by mailing his home at 4722 Cherry Ln, Republic, MI 49879.
