Ishpeming- Robert "Pinky" Anderson, age 80 of 502 N. 5th St, Ishpeming, passed away Friday, April 6, 2007, with his loving family at his side, at the Mather Nursing Center where he been a resident since Wednesday April 4, 2007.
Robert was born May 9, 1926 in Ishpeming to Clarence R. "Daddy" and Mildred (Blackwell) Anderson. Pinky served in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving on the USS Indiana.
Pinky worked as an underground miner for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company at the Mather A & Mather B Mines, retiring in 1979. Pinky was a life long Ishpeming resident. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.
Pinky enjoyed hunting; he was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior and was an avid golfer. Pinky was a member of the Wawonowin Country Club, Ishpeming V.F. W. Post 4573 where he visited daily to play cards. Pinky also belonged to the Ishpeming Cribbage League and Pool League playing for the Rainbow Bar. In his youth he was a ski jumper and belonged to the Ishpeming Ski Club. Since 1944 Pinky enjoyed being at camp on the Dead River Basin. Pinky will be sadly missed by his grandchildren who he loved being with.
Pinky is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean (DeMark) Anderson, 4 children: Roberta (Jerry) Luokkala of Ishpeming Mary Ellen (Dale) Toivonen of Ishpeming, Tommy Anderson of Munising and Suzie (Robbie) Dodson of Ishpeming, 6 grandchildren: Crystal (Rob) Faull of Norway, Angela (Anthony) Vidlund of Ishpeming Rachel (Jason) Argall of Ishpeming, Michael (Jennifer) Toivonen of Warner Robins, GA, Jessica & Natalee Dobson of Ishpeming, along with 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 4:00p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev Warren Geier to officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call the Bethany Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 2:00p.m. until the time of service at 4:00p.m.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Anderson, Jerry Luokkala, Dale Toivonen, Robbie Dobson and Tim Hares.
