Champion- Robert J. Pearce, age 88, long time Clarksburg area resident, peacefully passed away June 5, 2018 at his home while in the loving care of his family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Robert was born on February 13, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Samuel and Margaret (DeCaire) Pearce. He spent his working years as a logger at Sam Pearce and Sons.
Robert enjoyed cutting wood, making inventive wooden creations, fishing on Lake Superior, gathering with his friends, playing cut for dollars, going for pontoon boat rides, spending time at Skeeder Camp, and working on his trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment. He had 14 boats, give or take a few.
Robert is survived by his 4 daughters- Christine (Paul) Latvala, Paulette (Roger) Latvala, Dona (Stephen) Johnson, Vicki Parkkonen, 8 grandchildren- Aaron (Cindy), Angela, Rachel, Douglas (Amanda), Jessica (Terry), Casey, Robert, Lindsey (Jason), 7 great grandchildren- Alex, Trevor, Tyler, Anna, Isaac, Austyn, Myles "E-Boy", siblings- Donald Pearce, Bella (Ray) Hill, uncle- Mark DeCaire, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Edith (Skogman) Pearce, son- Gary Pearce, and great granddaughter- Trista Peters.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday June 8, 2018 at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
A public celebration of life and potluck luncheon will be held at the Greenwood American Legion Post 114 on Friday June 8, 2018 from 4:35 pm until 7:25 pm. The family asks that anyone attending please wear your fancy flannel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the U.P. Home Health and Hospice, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, the Ishpeming Senior Citizens Center, or a charity of your choice.
