Gwinn- Robert M. Hooker Sr., age 84, longtime area resident, passed away on Thursday February 3, 2022 at UP Health System Marquette while in the loving care of his family and hospital staff.

Robert was born in Richlands, VA on April 3, 1937, son of the late William and Virginia (Hickman) Hooker. He attended school through the 11 ^th grade before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Robert was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base and K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base until his honorable discharge. Following his Air Force service he enlisted in the United States Marines where he served on aircraft carriers as a jet mechanic until his honorable discharge. Upon discharge from the Marines Robert returned to the UP where he ended up finding work in Milwaukee before returning to Marquette County to work at the Cliffs Iron Mines until a layoff that led him to work with the Michigan Department of Corrections, and then back to Cliffs where he worked as a Supervisor for the remainder of his working career.

Robert was a former member of the American Legion, and the Elks Club. He loved to dance, garden, hunt, fish, go camping, and enjoyed wintering in Arizona for a number of his retirement years.

Robert is survived by his beloved friend- Shirley Pizziola, 2 children- Michael (Tammy) Hooker, Bobby (Karen) Hooker, 2 siblings- Betty (Tom) Chandler, Tom Hooker, 3 grandchildren- Austin, Robert III, David, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Bill Hooker, sister- Peggy Conn, and infant son- Jimmy Joe.

Robert's family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming from 12:00 noon until 1:00pm on Saturday February 12, 2022. Military Honors will be held at 1:00pm followed by sharing of memories of Robert. A luncheon will follow the services at the Ishpeming VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ishpeming Senior Center at 121 Greenwood St. Ishpeming, MI 49849 in memory of Robert.
