Ishpeming- Robert H. "Bob" Kakkuri, age 63 of 895 N. Main St. Ishpeming, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, January 26, 2015 at his home in Ishpeming.
Bob was born in April 1st 1951, the proud son of Harold & Florence (Dolkey) Kakkuri. He was a lifelong Ishpeming resident and a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1969. Bob married the former Karen Bietila on November 11, 1972. He worked for over 39 years, retiring as Plant Repairman for Cliffs Natural Resources. He enjoyed his work and the guys he spent his time with at Cliffs. He was a talented man that could fix anything and enjoyed working on the many projects he had going at both of his camps in between watching and carting around his grandchildren. He was looking forward to starting a complete restoration of his 67' olds 442 this summer.
He enjoyed the fall, winter and spring at his hunting camp on the 5th Falls of the Escanaba River with his sons and friends where he could be found most Friday nights. His cousin Mitch Mutka was a constant companion and he enjoyed visiting with Tom Allen at his nearby camp. Deer season was more an obsession then just a time of year. He spent his summers with his wife living at their camp on the Dead River Basin. The time at camp centered around his children and grandchildren's enjoyment of sauna and swimming. He enjoyed spending his evenings boating on the Basin with his cousin Mitch Mutka and the late Eddie Schultz visiting with family and friends.
A man of faith who was a member of Lake Superior Christian Church where he attended weekly. He spoke of and believed that "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" and would want us to mention he was a proud NRA member, Christian, Conservative.
Our father was man of example and not many words, who's faith & character was a solid foundation for our Family and not just a father to his children, but our best friend and we could always feel the love and pride he had for us. We were truly blessed to see a man's devotion to his wife, love for his children and grandchildren, his strong work ethic, character and faith. He was not just a friend to his children's friends but a fatherly figure.
Survivors include his wife Karen Kakkuri, his mother Florence Kakkuri, 3 children – Clint (Amanda) Kakkuri, Renae Kakkuri and Chad (Kimberly) Kakkuri, 2 sisters – Janet (Tom) Poggione and Denise (Scott) Perry all of Ishpeming, 6 grandchildren – Asa & Brayden Kakkuri, Drew & Malina Collister, Peyton & Dax Kakkuri, mother-in-law Patsy Bietila of Ishpeming, brother-in-law Paul (Sue) Bietila of Milwaukee, WI, along with several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and his former son-in-law Jason Collister.
