Ishpeming, MI- retired SMSGT Robert Ernest "Bob" LaBo, age 82, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Mill Creek Senior Living Community while in the loving care of his family, staff at MCSLC, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Robert was born in Wyandotte, MI on December 23, 1938, a son of the late Lucille and Ernest LaBo.

Bob received his HVAC certificate from NMU and worked for Poutanens Heating and Cooling.

Bob retired as a SMSGT from the U.S. Air Force serving from December 1957 until his honorable discharge in December 1986.

Bob was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Ishpeming, Ishpeming ELKs Lodge 447 and the Ishpeming VFW Post #4573.

Bob was a great storyteller, he would often tell the same stories over and over about his experiences during his 29 years in the Air Force, some include when he walked on the Great Wall of China or flew through the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Bob enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, attending car shows and driving his corvette. Everyone that knew Bob loved him.

Bob is survived by his wife Elaine, two daughters, Anna (Bob) Gereau, and Terri (Stephen) Gillotte, stepsons; Scott (Edith) Anttila, and Brett (Chris) Anttila, grandchildren: Sannah, Xander, and Grant, and cousin; Judy (Jim) Holden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming, with Fr. Ryan Ford officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 2:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be Brett Anttila, Jim Manty, Harvey Wise, Roger Meade, Tom Casselman and Xander LaPointe.

A luncheon will follow at the Ishpeming ELKs Lodge.

Interment with Military Honors will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.

Memorials may be directed to the Ishpeming ELKs Lodge or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in memory of Bob.
