North Lake – Robert "Stumper" Anderson, age 76, longtime North Lake Loc. resident passed away at 1:47am on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the home of his daughter in North Lake Loc. Robert was in the loving care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Bob was born August 13, 1935 in Negaunee the son of the late Eiler and Ruth (Gill) Anderson and grew up on the family farm in North Lake Loc. Robert, who was known as "Mushy" at work, was employed for many years with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. as a shovel operator starting at the Humboldt Mine, later moving to the Tilden Mine and retired from the Empire Mine after 30 years with the company.
Bob and his late wife Betty loved to go fishing out on Lake Superior, along with bird, rabbit and deer hunting. He attended the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters – Rose (Donald) Cox and Ann (Jerry) Williams both of North Lake, a son Robert (Kathy) Anderson of Hanover, IN, sisters – Marion Anderson of Negaunee and Olive Brown of Petoskey, 6 grandchildren – Melanie, Nicole & Becky Cox, Gary (Leah) Williams, Shawn Williams who took special care of his grandpa, and Rebekah Anderson-Meece, 3 great grandchildren Khyle, Izeah and Izaac Williams, along with special friends Judy, Carol, Tina and Alyssa. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Betty, a brother Ron Anderson and a granddaughter Amanda Cox.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday April 16, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00pm at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm on Monday with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob's grandchildren.
