Ishpeming, MI- Reino J. Kestila, age 94, Ishpeming resident passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of his family, staff at MCMCF and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Reino was born in Pyhajoki, Finland on February 8, 1928, a son of the late Karl J. and Anna (Saari) Kestila. Reino attended the Rock/Lathrup Schools and later receiving his GED.

Reino was drafted in the Army where he served from September 19, 1950, until his honorable discharge on July 10, 1952, serving active duty during the Korean War.

Reino began working in the mining industry for J&L at the Tracy Mine where he worked for 17 years, then worked as a pocket man for Cleveland Cliffs where he retired in 1993 from the Empire Mine.

Reino was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447 and the AMVETS.

Reino enjoyed taking rides in the woods in his jeeps, also enjoyed partridge hunting and spending time at hunting camp. He was proud of his Finnish heritage enjoyed listening to Finnish Music and watching Suomi Kutsuu.

Reino is survived by three sons; Larry (Lori) Kestila, of Frisco, TX; Brian (Becky) Kestila, of Ishpeming; David (Roxanne Oja) Kestila of Ishpeming, six grandchildren; Curtis (Heather) Kestila, Derek (Natalie) Kestila, Jamie Kestila, Kyle (Sheenah) Kestila, Rae-anna (John) Peters, Tara Kestila,

Eleven great grandchildren- Deacon, Gunner, Asher, Livia, Hallie, Ansley, Camryn, Xavier, Kyla, Malachi, and Aurora, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife Florence, sister Anita Lehtinen, and brother Hugo Kestila.

Reino's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home where his memorial service will be held at 11:00 am with Pastor Robert Freysinger officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church or UP Home Health and Hospice in memory of Reino.
