Republic – Reino J. Heikkila, age 91, lifelong Republic resident passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his home in Republic.

Reino was born November 17, 1925 in Republic the son of the late John and Tyyne (Hakala) Heikkila. Reino had worked in the logging business for many years with his brother William for Heikkila Brothers Logging. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Republic. He spent many hours trout fishing on local streams, enjoyed hunting and also snowmobiling.

Survivors include 2 brothers – William Heikkila of Republic, and Alvar (Marina) Heikkila of Ishpeming, a nephew John (Heidi) Heikkila of Ishpeming. Reino was preceded in death by his parents and a brother George Heikkila and sister Elvi Heikkila.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 1 – 2 pn on Thursday, August 17, 2017. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm on Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic with the Rev. Kevin Kaiser to officiate. Interment will take place at the Republic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
