Ishpeming - Raymond Arthur Windahl, age 82 of 217 N. 5th St. Ishpeming, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Mather Nursing Center where he been a resident for the past 5 days.
Raymond was born February 23, 1928 in Republic, MI to Arthur and Betty (Ahola) Windahl. Ray's family moved to Republic where he spent his childhood years. Ray served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Ray worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 34 years, retiring as a supervisor of the pellet plant. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and former member of the Ishpeming V.F.W., Ray enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their activities and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed bowling, woodcarving, fixing clocks and watches and attending auction to find antiques.
Ray is survived by his wife Corrine (Doughtery) Windahl, whom he married on May 28, 1954, 2 children: Kristine Kellow of Ishpeming, Stephen (Diana) Windahl of Ishpeming, 4 grandchildren: Jenith Flex, Andrea (Aaron) Carr, Jordan Windahl, and Tyler Windahl, 3 great grandchildren: Aiden & Scotty Carr and Kaliyah Hewitt, 2 sisters: Anna Lou Brewer of Grand Ridge, FL and Ruth (Harry) Johnson of Republic, sisters in law Joyce Windahl, Harriett Doughtery and Mary Ann (Louie) Mitchell, special family friend Betty Miller along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Windahl.
A memorial service will be held 2:00PM on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Kenneth Lahners officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Sunday from 1:00PM until the time of service at 2:00PM.
