Negaunee- Raymond Joseph Chartre, age 74, of 189 Sunset Drive Negaunee, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at UP Health System Marquette.

Raymond was born in Menominee, Michigan on November 8, 1946, a son of the late Patrick H. and Beaulah M. (Cappaert) Chartre.

Ray graduated from Menominee High School, Class of 1966, and received a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Art Education from Northern Michigan University.

He served in the U.S. Army Michigan National Guard, 107 ^th HHC in Ishpeming and the 1075 ^th Maintenance in Marquette from 1970-1995.

Ray worked in the grocery industry from 1970 until his retirement in 2017, working at Red Owl, Jacks IGA, Valle' Grocery Stores.

Ray was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church Ishpeming, where he previously served on the church council, He enjoyed photography, fishing, and his Ford Mustang car.

Ray is survived by his wife Kay (Lanyon) Chartre, whom he married on August 8, 1970, two sons; James Chartre, of Negaunee; Nicholas (Jenna) Chartre, of Ishpeming; a sister Judi (Jon) Pietsch of Denmark, WI, a brother Douglas Chartre of Appleton, WI, 4 grandchildren; Ashley Chartre, Justin Chartre, Rachael Chartre, and Zachary Chartre, great grandchildren; Kyleigh, Emmett, Macy, along with nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a son Steven Chartre, and a grandson Ethan.

A Public Visitation will be held 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, March 19th at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.  Masks and Social Distancing are required.

Private Services will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, with Rev. Warren Geier officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be direct to Bethany Lutheran Church-Music 715 Mather Ave Ishpeming, MI 49849 in memory of Ray.

Burial will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery with Military Honors.
