Ely Twp,- Randall P. Helsten, age 65 of 1796 South Little Perch Lake, Ishpeming (Ely Twp), passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday, May 11, 2018 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Randy was born December 18, 1952 in Ishpeming to Matt & Saimi (Korpi) Helsten. Randy graduated from National Mine High School, class of 1971. Right after high school, Randy started working at the Empire Mine, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for his entire adult life. He happily retired at the age of 49.

Randy was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring his 1951 Ford F-1. He loved the UP, especially the Helsten family camp on Little Perch Lake.

Randy is survived by his wife Terri (Dahlstrom), 3 children: Daniel (Sara) Helsten of Chesterfield, Missouri, Sara Kraemer of Lexington, Kentucky, and Leah (Brent) Mason of Pasadena, California; a step-daughter Dawn Melka of Bismarck, North Dakota; and 8 grandchildren: Dominic, Lana and Brandon Helsten, Mason Kraemer, Alexandra, Zachary and Samantha Mason, and Karissa Beatty, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Juntila.

A private life celebration will be shared by Randy's immediate family, all of whom will miss him very much.
