Ralph O. Rundman died at his home in Ishpeming, in the company of his loving wife and family. He had aid and support from Lake Superior Hospice during the last 9 months of his life. Their presence was a great comfort to him and to those of us who were dealing with his declining health.
Ralph graduated from the Ishpeming High School and continued his education at NMU, graduating in 1952 from the school of business. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan where he was assigned to the headquarters company.
In 1953, he married Carolyn Pries from Medford, WI. and after completing his military service, worked as an accountant at the Ladish Drop Forge Co. of South Milwaukee, WI. Returning to Ishpeming with his wife and family in 1958, Ralph entered the Rundman family Paint & Decorating business as the estimator for contracts at Sawyer AFB, Tilden & Empire Mines, the University Center at NMU and many other jobs during the years when Marquette Co. was experiencing a growth of new industry and construction.
His interests included singing with local groups, especially his 15 years with the Negaunee Male Chorus, the Bethel Church choir and the original group founded by Jack and Jan Boase called The Choraleers. He loved his camp on the DR Basin, enjoyed the Wawonowin G.C. and the Friday night couples card games. He looked forward to hunting with Jim Blewett and "the boys", also downhill and x-country skiing around the UP, and anything that allowed him to tramp through the woods with his golden retrievers, Tawny and Harlee.
Ralph leaves his wife "Lynn", his daughters Cheryl Uelmen, Donna (Robert) Marlor and son Eric (Joan), his grandsons, Jeff (Emily) and Brian (Rian) Uelmen and great grandsons Greyson, Reed, Gabe and Brady and great grand daughter Peyton as well as his sister Betti (James) Jenson and special nephews Michael and Greg Isaacson who would lend a helping hand and keep us smiling. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph A. and Mildred Rundman and his sister, Barbara Isaacson.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church at 4pm on Friday, Sept. 16th. It will be preceded by a visitation at 3pm with a meal following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Bethel Memorial fund, UPPAWS, Lake Superior Hospice or a charity of your choice.
