Clarksburg- Phyllis J. Salo, age 56 of 37300 Co Rd 496 Champion (Clarksburg) was called home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2007.
Phyllis was born June 5, 1951 in Ishpeming to Wayne D. Ivey and Evelyn A. (Arpiainen) Ivey. Phyllis graduated from Eben High School. Phyllis loved gardening, camping and being with friends and family. She was a member of 2 Red Hat Groups and enjoyed her Red Hat friends immensely. Phyllis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 114 of Greenwood.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 38 years, Donald Wayne Salo, 3 sons, Daniel (Julie) Salo of Gladstone, William Salo of Gladstone and Shawn Salo at home, her beloved grandson, Ethan William of Laurium, 3 brothers Mike (Minda) Verville of Georgia, Doug (Lahna) Champion of New Jersey and their son David Champion, Dennis (Blanche) Champion of Ishpeming and their son Derrick Champion, a sister Betty (Michael) Quayle of Virginia, her mother Evelyn (Henry) Chynoweth of Ishpeming and step father Ed Hansen of Laurium, Phyllis is also survived by 2 foster brothers Monte and Jack Pokela and a foster sister Janet Pokela Perander; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father and step mother Wayne Don and Ruth Ivey; her foster parents Leo and Martha Pokela and their son Millard and by her in laws: Jennie and Wilho Salo.
A memorial service will be held at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1:00p.m. with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion Post 114 in Greenwood. Rev. Allen Agee of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Antigo, WI will be officiating.
The family of Phyllis Salo will greet friends and relatives from 12 noon until the time of service at 1:00p.m.
There will be no viewing following Phyllis' wishes to be cremated.
Inurnment will be at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pati and Loren Salmi, Wayne Salo and Sharon Frigard, Pat Vanekevort, Melanie Bonschrager, Joyce Richards and Maxine Laparche.
