Ishpeming, MI-Phillip P. "Shorty" Poirier, age 77, Ishpeming resident passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at UP Health System Bell.

Phillip was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on April 22, 1947, a son of the late Edelore and Theresa (Ombrello) Poirier. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1965.

Phil worked for Jim's Jubilee and as a warehouse manager for Charter Communications. In his younger years he played baseball for many years with the Junction Jets and basketball in the Ishpeming City League. He also played in area pool and horseshoe leagues and archery.

Phil and Diane loved to go camping and made numerous friends while camping on the Menominee River at Rivers Bend RV Park in Iron Mountain. He liked to watch and feed the deer and watched old Westerns. Most of all he loved spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.

Phil is survived by his wife Diane (Uren), whom he married on April 22, 1972, daughters; Christine (Doug) Dicesare of Davenport, FL and Peggy (Todd) Mosher of Wilson, MI, grandchildren; Morgan, Alexie, Maddie and Austin, step-granddaughter, Olivia and step great granddaughter, Ra'nya, brothers-in-law; Jimmy and Jerry (Liisa) Uren, sister-in-law Janet Coron, aunts; Dolly Carlson, Juliane Ombrello and Lucy Stancliff, special friends Herb and Kelly Walline, brother Bill Poirier and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws; William and Mildred Uren, a brother and sister-in-law Joe and Elaine Poirier and sisters-in-law; Dorothy Morris and Nancy Uren.

Phil's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Fr. Christian Flagstadt officiating.

The burial will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

A luncheon will follow the service at St. Joseph Church fellowship hall.
