North Lake- Mr. Peter John Mariuzza, 88, of 970 Patriot St. Ishpeming. , went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 21st, 2009 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.
Peter was born in Ishpeming Twp, on December 4, 1920, the son of the late Peter John and Vincini (Beltrame) Mariuzza. He lived in North Lake his entire life. Peter attended the Ishpeming School, and served in the CCC Camps. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 37 years first working underground at the Mather A Mine later working at the Republic Mine and retired in 1982 from the Tilden Mine.
Peter was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cribbage in the Ishpeming Cribbage League and was a former member of the Junction Club. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, enjoying a walk, and taking care of his garden. Family time was very important to Peter, he enjoyed being in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A beloved husband, father & grandfather, Peter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia (Brewall) Mariuzza whom he married August 7, 1948,two daughters, Doris (Gerald) Smith of Ishpeming, Vickie (Bruce) Laurila of Marquette, a son, Michael (Jane) Mariuzza of Ishpeming. Peter is also survived by six grandchildren: Scott (Cathy) Smith, Tammy (Dominic) Carello, Angel (Matthew) Berg, Randy Laurila, Michael (Michelle) Mariuzza, and Tony (Kristen) Mariuzza, 8 great grandchildren: Todd, Macy, Mikey, Matt, Mason, Luke, Avery, Alyssa and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Todd Smith, great granddaughter Sydney Paige Luke, brothers, Lindow and Romano Mariuzza and a sister Judith Lisa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Ishpeming, at 5:00PM on Tuesday, November 24th, with Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at St. Johns Catholic Church on Tuesday from 3:00PM until the time of service at 5:00PM
Pallbearers will be Peter's grandsons.
