Obituary

Ishpeming/National Mine Loc.- Peter J. Hill, age 79 longtime area resident, passed away on Sunday July 28, 2024 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of nursing home staff.

Peter was born in Ishpeming on May 26, 1945, son of the late Eino and Ruth (Solka) Hill. He grew up in the National Mine area and graduated from National Mine High School with the class of 1963. Peter attended Northern Michigan University graduating in 1967 with a Bachelors Degree in social work. He then went on and served in the United States Army from October of 1967 until his honorable discharge in September of 1969. In December of 1977 Peter married Betty Dobrzenski and together they raised her daughter, Marcia. Peter worked at the Marquette County Road Commission for many years retiring after 22 years.

Peter enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and his dogs in his younger years, and while at the nursing home he loved to sing, make people smile, play cribbage, listen to the radio, watch the Tigers, Red Wings, and the Packers.

Peter is survived by his brother- Steven (Wendy) Hill, his stepdaughter- Marcia (Bill) Parkkonen, 2 grandchildren- Ian and Maija, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife- Betty (Dobrzenski) Hill.

Following Peter's wishes, cremation will take place with no public services. Peter will be interred in the Ishpeming Cemetery Columbarium with his wife Betty.

Peter's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Torreano, and all of the ACU nurses at UP Health System Bell for their wonderful care and kindness.
