Ishpeming - Peter J. Ombrello, age 81, of 212 E. Superior St. Ishpeming, passed away at 6:45AM, Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008.
Pete was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on January 3, 1927, the son of the late Vito and Nancy (Frustaglio) Ombrello. He served in the U.S. Army, state side at the end of World War II. After the war, he worked at Cohodas Brothers. He then worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 37 years, starting at the Mather A and moving to various mines including the Humboldt, Mather "B", Tilden, retiring in maintenance in 1988. During layoffs from the mine he worked for the Fuller Brush Co., and the Copper Country Dairy, delivering milk. Pete married Beverly Duhame on July 9, 1982.
Pete was a life long area resident and an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed playing baseball and fast-pitch softball, and was a member of a state championship fast-pitch team, his final slow-pitch team was the Junction Jets, a team in which he competed with his sons. Pete was an avid bowler, cribbage player and horseshoe thrower in the Ishpeming leagues and also enjoyed Pinochle and Smear.
Survivors include his wife Beverly of Ishpeming, daughter: Lynn (Glenn) Koski of Champion, four sons: Dennis (Yong) Ombrello of Marquette, Pete (Patti) Ogea of Ishpeming, Jeff (Rene) Ogea of Champion, Bob Ogea of Marquette, a step daughter, Sherry Solka of Kaukauna, WI, a step son: Alan (Kathy) Solka of Ishpeming, three sisters: Connie (Gordon) Ellis of Negaunee, Lucy Stancliff of IL, Dolly (Dean) Carlson of Ishpeming, two brothers: Phillip "Fish" (Louise) Ombrello of Negaunee, Vic (Marion) Ombrello of Gwinn, 11 Grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – Grace Ombrello, Joseph Poirier, Edelore Poirier, Julaine Ombrello, Pat Hamel and Alice Robinson, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends
Pete was preceded in death by a son Todd Ombrello, brothers and sister: Rose Bertucci, Kate Georgianni, Fortnot "Pinny" Ombrello, Marion Poirier, Theresa Poirier, Stella Mitchell, Anthony Ombrello,
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming at 6:00PM on Friday, April 25th, with Rev. Fr. Jim Challancin officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 4:00PM until the time of service at the church on Friday. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Poirier, Mark Poirier, Tony Ombrello, Fran Bertucci, Phil Ombrello, Paul Ombrello.
