Ishpeming – Peggy Jean Niemi, age 60 of #11 Sunnyside Estates, Ishpeming Twp., passed away at 9:40 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family, and under the care of the Lake Superior Hospice.
Peggy was born September 27, 1947 in Ishpeming to the late Arnold and Margaret (Dymond) Emanuelson. She was a life long area resident, growing up in National Mine. She loved to volunteer at the Ishpeming Salvation Army. Peggy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and serving the community soup dinners at the Salvation Army in which she was the head cook. Peggy and her husband owned and operated Woody's bar in Ishpeming for several years.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ronald Niemi of Ishpeming, three children: Steven (Penny) VanHorn of Ishpeming, Darrell (Debbie) Van Horn of Palmer, and Sherry Van Horn of Ishpeming, Brothers: Ralph (Barbara) Emanuelson of Ishpeming, Robert Emanuelson of Ishpeming, Sister: Cindy (Chris) Kukla of National Mine, a special grandson Branden Holm of Ishpeming, along with 5 other grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a special nephew whom she helped raise, Brian Vien of Green Bay, WI, and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her first husband Darrell G. VanHorn, an infant grandson, brothers: Gary Emanuelson, and Donald Emanuelson, sisters: Dorothy Vien, Carol Royea, Judy Albertson, and Charlotte Langson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m. Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Salvation Army in Ishpeming with Capt. Deb Jolly officiating.
Friends may call the Salvation Army on Friday at 10:00a.m. until the time of service at 11:00a.m.
