Obituary

Ishpeming, MI - Paul Joseph Rintala "Paulie Joe or Bus", age 60, lifelong area resident passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at his home from natural causes.

Paul was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on October 30, 1961, a son of the late Paul L. and Madonna J. (LaCosse) Rintala. Paul graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1979.

Paul was a deeply loving and kind soul, rooted in his spirituality, and blessed with a colorful creativity. One of Paul's greatest passions was music, where he was accomplished both as a songwriter and musician. Paul played guitar with a number of local bands including the Shades, Slamtones, Kick Back, and others. In addition to guitar, he often played harmonica and dabbled in both lead and harmonic vocals. His rendition of Imagine by John Lennon will live on in the memories of many, and will always have a special place in his mother's heart.

Paul had an exceptional connection to nature, which heavily influenced the music he composed and performed, along with the poetry he wrote and read. He enjoyed skiing, hiking the local trails, and swimming in Lake Superior. It was in nature that Paul could connect best to his spiritual side, appreciating every element of the world around him. He would often relax in nature and take up a book, as he was a passionate reader. It was there that he felt most at peace; truly appreciating the simpler things in life.

Paul had a deep connection with his family, especially with his parents, whom he cared for in their final years. He could always bring a smile to his mother's face as he would sing and play the guitar or read to her. From his father he inherited a sharp wit that he shares with his siblings. Family gatherings were always filled with an impressive array of sarcastic comebacks, playful banter, and remarkable trivia. He also was gifted with his mother's talent for cooking, which he used as a chef in many local restaurants, most recently at Buck's Restaurant in Ishpeming.

Paul is survived by a daughter, Samantha J. Rintala, 2 granddaughters Lua and Olivia Rintala, 2 brothers; Vern (Lori) Rintala and Mike (Connie) Rintala, a sister, Paula (Will) Press, nephews; Brett, Jerry, and Andy Roby, Ricky and Nick McLaughlin and a niece Halley Press.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson: Benjamin Rintala, and sister Cheryl (Ron) Barber.
