National Mine – Paul Roger Patron, age 68 of 1600 Co. Rd. PCE in National Mine went home to be with Jesus after a lengthy illness, on Thursday November 20, 2008 at his home while in the loving care of his wife and the Lake Superior Hospice.
Paul was born in Ishpeming on April 12, 1940 to the late Theodore and Anna (Kangas) Patron. He attended Ishpeming High School and received his GED from Escanaba High School before attending Bay Community College.
Paul served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was honorable discharged on June 30, 1969. He was an Active Trustee at the Hope Free Lutheran Church where he was a member. Paul worked for C.C.I. at both the Tilden and Empire Mines along with the Mather B and spent several years at a painter. He also worked for Robbins Flooring Mill. Paul enjoyed music and singing. Paul had a love for the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping and bird watching.
Paul is survived by his wife of twenty one years: Grace (Anderson) Patron of National Mine and the day they were married, her children became his children: Randy (Kim) Monson of Escanaba, Deanna (Don) Dupart of Green Bay, WI, and JoEllen (Richard) Swajanen of Chatham, Brothers and Sisters: Teddy and Fred Magnuson, Gail (Ronald) Robertson, Dean (Paulette) Patron, and Ronald (Marcia) Patron, Grandchildren: Kasi, Molly and Abby Swajanen, Jessica and Anna Monson, Danielle, Dustin, and Dana Dupart, and a Sisters-in-law: Sharon Patron, Gail Latvala, and Rose Delmont along with several Nieces and Nephews. Paul was preceded in death by three Brothers: Meade, Peter and Duane.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Hope Free Lutheran Church at 12:00noon with Rev. Michael Burke officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of service. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 will hold a flag presentation. A luncheon will follow the services at the church. Inurnment will take place this spring at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Guy Murray, Eric Rehorst, Alton McCarthy, Lowell Hansen, Wayne Salo, Allen Devold, Kenneth Jaykka, and Walter Pronto.
