Obituary

Negaunee- Paul J. Ogea, age 67 of 1209 Nakomis St. Negaunee & Bonita Springs, FL resident, passed away Thursday, June 02, 2011 at his home while under the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice.

Paul was born May 14, 1944 in Diorite, MI to Raymond & Toini (Paavola) Ogea. Paul graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1962 and graduated from Lansing Community College with an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Paul worked for the State Police as a detective sergeant retiring from the Negaunee Post as a fire marshal in 1993. His career with the state began in 1968 as a trooper at Hart, Michigan with later transfers to Lansing, Owosso, back to Lansing and Negaunee.

Paul was an avid golfer, enjoying golfing at Wawonowin Country Club where he was a member. He achieved professional status in shuffle boarding while wintering in Florida. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing and in his younger days bowling and playing baseball. Paul had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a great story teller. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife Linda (Hewitt) whom he married June 8, 1968, 2 children: Traci (Tim) Leinonen of Menominee, MI and Todd (Maia) Ogea of Negaunee, 4 grandchildren: Megan & Adam Ogea, Andrew & Abbey Leinonen, a brother Raymond (Sharon) Ogea of Sheboygan, Falls, WI, a sister Karen (David) Edelschick of Manassas, VA, sister in law Lois Ogea of Champion, an uncle Nels Paavola of Diorite and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Judith Pascoe and a brother Bryan Ogea.

Funeral service and visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with visitation from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm with Rev. Marcia Solberg officiating.

Interment will take place in the Champion Cemetery.

A luncheon will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church U.S. Hwy 41 Negaunee following the funeral service.

Memorials may be directed to Lake Superior Hospice 914 W. Baraga Ave. Marquette, MI 49855 in memory of Paul.
