Ishpeming- Paul J. Coron, age 81 of 2000 Washington Ave. Ishpeming passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Mather Nursing Center where he had been a resident for 2 days.

Paul was born November 26, 1933 in Ishpeming to Henry & Catherine (Bertucci) Coron. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1951, where he was senior class president and member of the Glee Club. Paul was a longtime employee of the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company. He started at the Research Lab and retired as a Safety Foreman. Following his retirement from Cliffs, he worked for ITT Research on the ELF project, where he enjoyed spending time in the woods with his brother "Hank".

Paul was an excellent fast-pitch softball player for Woody's Bar, helping to lead them to numerous titles, as the second baseman and speedy lead-of hitter. He was a courageous ski jumper who belonged to the Ishpeming Ski Club, taking countless jumps on Suicide Hill. He enjoyed spending time in the woods, at "Camp Big Red", hunting and savoring the joys of hunting camp with family and friends. Paul had a purely beautiful tenor voice as a member of the Ishpeming Choral Club, and graced many church services with his flawless rendition of Ave Maria. He served as a member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447. Paul was a family man who loved and adored his children and grandchildren, and you could always hear him singing their praises around town. Paul was a proud father and grandfather. One could usually find him on the sidelines cheering for the home team, supporting young athletes, on and off the field.

Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Suzanne (Betts) Coron, 2 children: Renee (Scott Juchemich) Coron of Ishpeming and Steve (Karin Wagner) Coron of Ypsilanti, MI, a sister Mary Gray of Marquette, 3 grandchildren: Philip & Julia Coron and Olivia Frechen along with nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Henry Coron Jr.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 PM on Monday, March 2nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. Dan Moll officiating. Paul's family will greet relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday from 3:00PM until the time of service at 4:00PM

A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.
