Obituary
Ishpeming – Paul F. Blewett, age 69 resident of Ishpeming and Escanaba passed away on Monday November 30, 2009 at the Marquette General Hospital.
Paul was born in Ishpeming on January 21, 1940 the son of the late Fred and Evelyn (Norell) Blewett. Paul was a 1958 graduate of Ishpeming High School. He attended Michigan Technological University and transferred to Northern Michigan University where he received his Masters degree in mathematics.
Paul worked as a math teacher at the Bark River-Harris High School for 42 1/2 years, enjoying advanced math classes. He also taught drivers training. During his tenure as a teacher, Paul belonged to many different education associations and held various offices in each association. He was a member of the Bark River-Harris Education Association and held most of the offices. He was also a member of the Region Council, the UPEA, and was a member of the Board of Directors for the MEA for 24 years. He attended many NEA conventions throughout the country. Paul served as the president of the MEA Financial. As an active negotiator for various education contracts, he earned the respect of his fellow teachers. Paul was rewarded by the achievements of the students whom he taught. He was a lifetime member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.
During his spare time he enjoyed reading and discussing politics. He was a professional photographer and took pictures for many weddings, and church functions.
Survivors include his wife Vera (Kempf) Blewett of Escanaba with whom he had a wonderful relationship, a stepson Lyndon (Linda) Briggs of Daytona Beach, FL, cousins - Karen (Jerry) Plaisier of Ishpeming, Bruce (Bunny) Norell of Petersburg, MI, Kathy (Paul) Kish of Curtis, MI, Pat Bertucci of Ishpeming, Jean Carlson of Negaunee, Mary (George) Sundberg of Ishpeming, Jim (Pat) Blewett of Ishpeming, Bill (Barb) Blewett of Ishpeming, Janet (Neil) Rinne of Negaunee, Joan Blewett of Republic, Nanette Blewett of Negaunee. Special friends - Bernie and Fran Maynard of Gladstone and Bill and Karen Woolford of Rockledge, Fl.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30am until the time of services at 11:00am on Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Warren Geier to officiate. The family will again greet friends and relatives at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba from 3:00pm until 6:00pm on Thursday Dec. 3, 2009. A committal service and entombment will follow at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery at 6:15pm on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Brett Norell, Jim Blewett, Bill Blewett, Paul Kish, Jerry Plaisier, and Tony Bertucci.
