Ishpeming, MI - Patricia Elizabeth Hughes, age 90, of 813 N. Main St. Ishpeming, MI, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, while in the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Patricia was born in Ishpeming on May 24, 1934, a daughter of the late Myrtle (Renstrom) and Leonard Klippel. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1952. Pat married the late Gene Hughes on June 13, 1955, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Pat concentrated on raising her family as a stay-at-home mother while her children were young, and then went on to receive her bachelor's degree in education from NMU in 1974.

Once her children were raised Pat became a kindergarten teacher at C.L. Phelps School in the Ishpeming School District, a job she held for 22 years retiring at age 65. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she had served as a eucharistic minister had sung in the church choir. Pat loved traveling as her bags were always packed. She enjoyed playing Bingo, trips to the area casinos and berry picking.

Patricia is  survived by a daughter Elizabeth A. Shapiro of Ishpeming, three sons, Patrick (Cyndee) Hughes of Sumner, IA; Brian Hughes of Ishpeming and Liam (Corey Taratuta) Hughes of Ishpeming / Bally Caron, Knockahopple, County Tipperary, Ireland, a sister, Janet  Genord of Iron Mountain, 6 grandchildren, Kristen, Jessica, Eric, Brendan, Erin and Casey,  4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded by her husband Gene and 4 sisters, Nita Klippel, Irene Mercer, Myrtle Tasson and Fern Bertucci.

A Parish Rosary will be recited at 9:30am on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with visitation to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Christian Flagstadt to officiate. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery at 1:00pm on Tuesday. The Mass will be livestreamed at facebook/live
