Ishpeming – Norvin J. Hampton, age 89, of 560 Elliott Ave. passed away on Friday, March 21, 2008 at Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp.
Norvin was born February 26, 1919 in Negaunee, the son of the late Nicholas and Nellie (Pearce) Hampton. Norvin faithfully served our country during WWII in the United States Navy and also the Merchant Marines. He is a lifetime member of the Ishpeming VFW. Norvin also loved to go to camp and spend time with his devoted dog "Benny". He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and more recently going to the casino. Norvin was a life long area resident and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Virginia Hampton of Ishpeming, sons: Ross Hampton of Ishpeming and Greg (fiancée Debbie Carlson) Hampton of Ishpeming, granddaughter: Natalie Hampton, step grandson Nathan Denofre, brothers and sisters-in-law: Charles and Donna Lundin, Jean and Al St.Amour and Jean Sandstrom. Norvin is preceded in death by 4 sisters: Lillian, Ruby, Olive, and Dorthy, and 2 brothers: John and Lloyd.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 2008 at 6:00PM at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives at the funeral home on Monday, March 24, 2008 from 4:00PM until the time of service at 6:00PM. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 will have a veteran's flag presentation following the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the Ishpeming VFW. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery
