Obituary

Ishpeming - Norman Lee Potila, age 79, lifelong area resident, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of his family and nursing home staff.

Norman was born in Negaunee on November 19, 1942, son of the late Henry and Aunie (Niemi) Potila. He attended National Mine High School graduating with the class of 1960. Following graduation Norman served in the United States Army from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964. Norman co-owned and operated Globe Printing, and provided small business consulting for many years. Norman was a life-long learner with a love for reading and knowledge with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Norman was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ishpeming, the Wawonowin Country Club, the Elks Club, Kiwanis, the Ishpeming Bowling League and the infamous Gutshot Hunting Club. He loved being at his camp on Helen Lake, playing sports trivia where he and his friends competed for the honor and the burden of winning the Hobie Landrith traveling trophy where the winner would have to create the trivia for the next competition. Norman coached Legion Baseball, and umpired for women's softball leagues and played both fast-pitch and slow-pitch ball for various teams throughout the years. His family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited again with his wife and best friend Kathleen.

Norman is survived by his 2 daughters- Vikki (Don) Kulju, Tracy (Michael) Lee, sisters-in-law- Mary Ellen Potila, and Linda (Leonard) Rose, 4 grandchildren- Taylor (Ethan) Busch-Anderson, Ty Kulju, Henry Lee, Jordan (Duncan) Fox, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Kathleen (Thomas) Potila, brother- Ray Potila, and sister- Carol Rintala.

Following Norman's wishes, cremation will take place with no public services.

Norman's family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for all the love and care they showed Norman during his stay there.

The family will be holding a private memorial service. Memorial considerations may be made in honor of Norman to Cancer Care of Marquette County, an organization that supported Kathleen during her battle.
